For those who like to experience sporting action to the extreme and like living on the edge, kite surf board is the perfect choice for them. When it comes to pure thrill and a serious adrenaline rush, few sports can actually match up to the thrill and excitement that kite boarding brings. Kite boarding as a sport offers a perfect amalgam of fun, thrill and speed and that is why you will find these boards are already a popular sight in many parts of the world. Yes, most of the kite boarders are still from the US, but now it has become so popular that people from other parts of the world as well want to try this out.
So, what is kite boarding? Kite boarding is an extreme sport that makes use of powerful, controllable kites to propel riders on in-line skates, off-road skates or mountain boards at speeds up to 60 mph across parking lots, dry lakes, grassy fields and sandy beaches. It offers one the unique chance of getting to fly over land, sea and water, feel the wind blow into the face, the adrenaline rush in one’s veins and feel like being at the top of the world.
The popularity of kite boards started in the early part of the 90’s when sport kite enthusiasts began kite skating, or Rollerkiting, at festivals along the Eastern Coast of USA. In those early days, kiteskaters were mostly to be found in large parking lots practicing their craft. Early kite skaters used Rollerblades and four-line controllable kites made of parafoil for a fast and thrilling ride.
However kite surf board saw a dip in its popularity when kite buggy racing came. This does not mean, however, that it has been forgotten as eveidenced by its powerful comeback in 1992 under the pioneering efforts of Bob Childs who built a pair of off-road in-line skates using Rollerblade boots and scooter wheels, named the ‘Wheels of Doom’, which proved very effective in reigniting the general interest in kite boarding. Recently, ATB skateboard riders have joined the league of kite skaters. Kite Skateboarding daredevils travel on mountain-boards to speed around on multi-terrain surfaces, usually at a lesser speed than Kite Skaters. However, kite skateboarding provides a better scope for jump tricks and other fancy moves. This makes the sport of kite boarding very spectacular in nature and draws spectators in large numbers.
Tremendous improvements have been made in the field of kite boarding in recent years, especially in the designing and manufacture of these boards. In fact, anybody wishing to indulge in some kite boarding can easily buy all the equipment today from the local sports store or off the Internet as well and it is readily available too. However, one must remember that kite boarding is a demanding sport and requires that one uses only the best and the strongest of gear to ensure maximum safety. Your safety should at all times be the biggest concern. Remember, better the quality of your kiteboards, better will be your performance.
