Earlier this winter, I was given an opportunity to test and write a review on a pair of Arctic Winter Sport boots that were supposed to be greatest affordable boots to hit the market yet. And since I just happen to live in the Northern part of New York State, I really couldn’t think of a better place to try these out, since we regularly have below zero days during January and February. Also, we were having having one of our coldest winters on record too.
My first impression of the boots was the thickness of the rubber used, much more than any store bought waterproof rubber boots. The next thing I noticed was this nylon top that basically surrounds your calf so that the boots fit snug. Nothing’s worse than stepping in snow that’s deeper than you thought and having snow fall into the top of your boot and onto your feet. Not a great feeling.
Inside the boots is a thick breathable nylon lining that’s covered with fleece. It’s basically a very advanced, very thick, no very, very thick sock. As I slipped my feet into the boots and stood up, I noticed they had nice support yet a very cushy feel to them, but not so soft to make you lose your balance or footing. Walking around is nothing like walking in ski boots, these were flexible, light, overall, I was very impressed, but this was in my living room.
Now for some real world outdoor, very cold testing, how will they do? The day these were delivered it happened to be around zero out, and a good test. Once I got outside I walked on shoveled sidewalk for three or four blocks, and then onto snow covered ground for quite a ways. So far, the feet were fine, it’s my face and hands that got cold, and I thought my gloves were going to be warm enough.
Taking my winter garments off and warming up by the fire, I was pleased that my feet didn’t have that burning sensation, you know the one that makes them feel like they are on fire, when you bring them to the brink of frostbite? Since then, I don’t go anywhere in the winter without these boots, I’m actually hooked now. Mostly I wear them for the comfort, which I find outstanding. So, if you do any kind of work out in the cold and are looking for something to keep your feet warm, I would definitely check these Arctic Sport Muck boots from the Muck Boot Company out.
